Halloween Costume Ideas Using Dancewear

With Halloween approaching, you may already contemplate the perfect Halloween costume. Girls and pre-teen girls love to dress up in costumes that use dancewear as the basic piece of clothing. With a leotard or bodysuit and tights, the possibilities are limited only by your imagination. Many of these costumes are easy to make at home, but if you are not a seamstress or are just short on time, you can find hundreds of costumes online. Even if you just need a tutu or some other accessories, these too are available at costume stores and online.

The honey bee

The honey bee costume is one of the easiest to make. Materials needed are a black or black and yellow striped leotard with legs, a tutu in black or yellow or both, a headband with antennae, wings and some black flats. If you use a plain black leotard, you may need to add some yellow stripes; you can easily make these out of simple grossgrain ribbon.

The cat

The cat costume is another easy one to make. Materials needed are a full-length black leotard, tutu (optional), a tail made out of some black material, a headband with cat ears, mitts (optional), a cat nose and black flats. You can add some color with the tutu or other accessories.

The little devil

You can make a girl's devil costume using a full-length red leotard, tutu (optional) and gloves (optional); the tail is a must -- you can fashion this out of red material that closely matches the leotard (do not forget the pointy end). Add a devil headband with horns and black or red flats and you are done.

The Spanish princess and flamenco dancer

You can purchase these two costumes online or at a costume store. The Spanish princess features a leotard-type dress with red ruffles trimmed in black. Large red pin-on flowers are included to place in the hair, on the bodice or waist. Black tights and flats complete the outfit. The flamenco dancer costume is best suited for pre-teens. It features a tight-fitting long black dress with authentic ethnic ruffles in red, yellow and black that cascade down the front of the dress. Included with this costume are a Spanish fan, matching headress and jeweled black velvet choker necklace. Add black tights and flats (preferably with straps if your dancer is going to dance).
