How to Wash Ballroom Dancewear

If you think that because the fabric used to make ballroom dancewear is so delicate that it is difficult to wash, that is not entirely true. You can wash it, but it does require a gentle touch and a thorough knowledge of the right way to do it. To do it properly, you need a spray stain treatment, a garment-sized mesh bag, a bathtub, cold water and cold water detergent. With these items handy, you can learn how to wash ballroom dancewear in a few, easy steps.

  1. First: Checking for stains

Check the garment for stains. Collars and armpits are the easiest areas to stain, especially when they are worn for something as active as dancing. Spray a coat of stain treatment on the affected areas; let it sit for 10 minutes.

  2. Second: Washing

Spread the garment bag on the floor, insert the garment and close the bag. Fill the tub with cold water a few inches deep while pouring the detergent under the running water. Soak the garment bag in the tub for 15 minutes so the detergent can penetrate the garment. Push the bag underwater, making sure it is flat on the bottom of the tub. Push up and down, raising the garment with your hands. Do this step very gently, because it is easy to damage the garment.

  3. Third: Draining and rinsing

Drain the water from the tub, and rinse the bag in another round of cold water. Make sure it is still flat on the surface of the tub. Drain the water and repeat this step again, then let it dry. When it is dry, remove it from the bag; hang it up. If it sustained wrinkles, the ballroom dancewear is easily made wrinkle-free with a steam cleaner.
